Angie Thornton: Chicago, Illinois, United States; I enjoy photographing bicycles and the cycling community. I began biking in Chicago three years ago after being frustrated with crowded public transportation and driving. I rode seven miles to and from work in the summer of 2008 and lost thirty-five pounds. I became healthier and more aware of the city. I also grew fascinated with cyclists and their relationship with their bicycles. My work captures these characteristics and lifestyles. I also photograph abandoned bikes. Presenting such photos, I like to question why they are left behind. My work is both still and movement. Often, I have to anticipate the right time to shoot cyclists. If I see a unique looking bike, I will photograph it in various angles to capture it's personality. When I travel, I usually rent a bicycle to explore the city's layout and lifestyle.
